European Union contribution to the International Atlantic Salmon Research Fund
The EU funds research projects in Regional Fishery Management Organizations through the EU ‘Grants for an action’ programme. NASCO, through the International Atlantic Salmon Research Fund, is the beneficiary and the NASCO Secretariat administers, and is financial co-ordinator for, the projects. The funding thus far, of approximately €800,000 from the EU, has contributed to projects costing approximately €2 million in total being implemented. The projects are:
- SMOLTrack I. Understanding and comparing early mortality of European salmon populations at sea. January 2017 – December 2018;
- LiceTrack. Sea lice model for the sustainable development of Atlantic salmon fisheries and aquaculture. January 2017 – September 2019; and
- SMOLTrack II. Comparing mortality of European salmon populations at sea using multiple -method telemetry studies. January 2019 – December 2019.
SMOLTrack III is in development.
